At the IA, we are always pushed to our limits so we can truly be our best self, and are consistently reminded our ultimate goal as international students is to help others whenever we can, in whatever form we can. I love learning about other peoples and ideas, exploring my environment, in regards to where I am physically, mentally, and educationally, and always enjoy assisting others, especially in creative ways. As a result I really enjoy this school and its International Baccalaureate curriculum, although I do admit it is challenging at times.
The Personal Project is a graduation requirement at the IA, where students must create a product which positively affects another community in some way. Many choose to raise awareness for a growing problem, as did I, but I also attempted to assist in solving the problem. Ultimately my problem was the elderly bias in young children, or the preference for younger individuals due to the belief that elders are less useful. I also addressed how many children grow up continuing to believe in this ideal as it was not contested in childhood, and so when they are old enough to do so, end up placing their elderly relative in an assisted living home. Although I acknowledge these are not bad places, they are not ideal, and I wanted to show how there are other available options, such as having the elder live with the family. Additionally I referenced how many elders are treated as if they were not there, again due to the elderly bias.
