Welcome to the official website for my children's book Emmeline Reads. This book is a product of my research and I am very excited to be able to both share it with you and your child (or grandchild), and hopefully make strides towards defeating the elderly bias in American children. This website provides more information regarding the facts stated in the story, as well as the cultures included. It is a great source to provide context for many of the children and thus cultures in the story, as well as a supplemental resource for those who want to learn more about the cultures which were featured in the book.
On the more information page, a few links have also been provided for those wanting to publish a book of their own, whether it is a children's book or one for an older audience**. This is because I was unable to find a collection of links which I deemed helpful, as they were many times expensive websites, and it would have been greatly assistive if I had such a resource as this. I want to encourage aspiring authors (of which I am still one, as an author is created by readers) and share these lovely resources since publishing was an influential part of my journey.
Throughout this long and tedious process, I have learned much about the organization of a book and how to self-publish (which is loads easier than it seems), as well as how many cultures treat their elderly and even a bit about myself. Although the process was not the most fun at times, I ultimately am quite proud of my work and enjoyed the journey and becoming endlessly more knowledgeable than when I started. I have documented parts of my process here on this site, to show the many steps for those wishing to embark on this voyage to be able to reference. My ultimate goal was to make learning about this topic as enjoyable for the reader as it was for me since I know it can be quite dry at times, and hopefully by taking it in such a refreshing direction which it is not often taken (a children's book) I may allow my audience to become aware of this issue from a young age. Hopefully together we can make strides towards defeating the elderly bias, both in children and adults, and I cannot thank you enough for reading my book and exploring this often overlooked topic.*
*For those who have been directed to this site after reading my book, thank you for being so invested, and please note you will still be able to learn more information about cultures that were not included and ones that were. Additionally you can learn more about the author and the aforementioned publishers.
**I have not been sponsored by these companies (although I wish I was), and am truly providing this information for the aspiring author's benefit. Also logically I have not been sponsored since I am including competitors' information.
